Kicking Off Your New Financial Year: 3 Easy Steps to Gain Traction in Finances & LifeSubmitted by O'Grady Financial Group on January 17th, 2019
Hey Everybody, O’Grady here.
We got this. The new year. Yeah, great things are ahead. Even if the stock market goes down in 2019, which I don’t think it will, be it might, it will be a great year. Because you, me, we’re doing great things in our lives. We don’t measure our lives by how well our investments are doing.
Yes, of course. Your investments are important. But so is your health. So is your family. Those are more important. And the money…well, it belongs to God anyway. You’re managing his money, his assets.
If you believe, you can’t just believe the stuff you that suits you. You’ve got to be all in…or not. And if you’re in…here’s three things to focus on to get your new year started:
Knock out the pesky debt. Still got a mortgage. Fine. I’m talking credit cards. Vow to be debt free by 2020. You can go snowball or avalanche on them or just take the balance and divide by 12, then pay that amount toward the debt every month. OK, Ok, I didn’t factor in the interest…but you get the idea. Make a plan and start.
Upgrade your 401k and IRA. I don’t mean switch airlines, just get a seat with more legroom. The maximum contribution limits have gone up by $500 on both 401ks and IRAs, so adjust your monthly contribution accordingly.
Start the day with the good stuff…not a rehash of yesterday’s bad. That means the newspaper and TV morning shows take a back seat to the Bible, prayer, and meditation. Ok, coffee is first. But why get all worked up over the stories that mainstream media thinks we should care about before caring about the the story that we should get worked up over…God’s story. His story and plan for us.
There’s a lot that’s out of our control. Like what the stock market and our investments do on a daily basis. But we can control how we react to those daily gyrations. We can keep our focus on our long term goals and not fall for culture’s response that we must do something. Sometimes, don’t just sit there, do nothing is the best action.
Happy New Year. There are big things ahead in 2019. I’m so happy you’re a part of it.
